In the 1960's there lived a humble family in a modest four-bedroom home. They worked hard to care for the needs of their family.
One day they were driving home from a family vacation when they were hit by another driver. Most of the family members walked away with minimal injuries, or at least injuries that healed in time. But the father was severely injured. He was left partially paralyzed from the waist down.
As you might imagine, this event changed their lives forever. In their home they now had to rely on service from family, friends, and neighbors. Care and support was given with nothing asked in return. Their recovery and new way of life was made possible only by the generosity of others.
In their yard they grew two walnut trees. Each year their children, and eventually their grandchildren, would harvest the walnuts that had fallen to the ground. They would then sit together on the back patio and try their best to crack open the walnuts. The walnuts not eaten were saved and later added to brownies.
The walnuts were small, but they brought this family together in simple ways. Likewise, small acts of kindness, like this family received, transformed their home.
We give an expression of gratitude for all those who made life possible for this family. We honor their efforts and sacrifice. Walnut Giving encourages the practice of small acts of kindness so their potential can be harvested and enjoyed throughout the world.
Walnut Giving is all about being intentional with our efforts to build stronger communities. Our homes, churches, schools, businesses, and all other teams and organizations are stronger when we build a culture of giving.
